SPARK to kick off operations in logistics zone in 2024

King Salman Energy Park (SPARK) announced today, Aug. 29, that operations at its logistics zone are slated to kick off in 2024.

The logistics zone, designed to be a fully automated and developed area, includes the first and largest dry and private port in the region, in addition to a customs zone and on-site customs clearance services. It is operated and managed by Energy City Logistics Co., a joint venture between SPARK and global port operator Hutchison Ports, according to a statement picked up by Argaam.

The new zone will accommodate 10 million metric tons of goods upon completion, using automated gates, rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes, and goods automatic detection devices. This would, in turn, contribute to speeding up customs clearance operations, SPARK said.

Through the establishment of the new zone, Spark seeks to attract more big investments.

The logistics zone will capitalize on the strategic location of SPARK City in the Eastern Province, to serve as a gateway to the regional energy sector. It will also help facilitate investors' access to global markets and enable companies to meet the growing demand for energy sector products, by providing efficient and smooth supply chains.

According to Argaam data, SPARK is located between Dammam and Al-Ahsa in the Eastern Province. The project, developed in three phases on a total area of 50 square kilometers, will be divided into five main zones: The industrial zone, dry port and logistics zone, business district, training centers as well as residential and commercial complexes.
