France has waived the visa requirement for special passport holders in Saudi Arabia starting April 1, as long as their stay is shorter than 90 days, the French embassy in Riyadh announced.
“Therefore, the French embassy will no longer issue Schengen short stay visas on such passports,” the statement said.
Travelers in need of a Schengen visa, which allows free movement within 26 member countries, will have to apply to the concerned embassy.
Special passports in Saudi Arabia are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to both civilians and military members in certain categories. The passport holders have advantages regarding visas and airport processing.
Last year, Saudi Arabia and France inked trade deals worth $12 billion, strengthening commercial ties in multiple sectors.
