Middle East Healthcare Co. (MEAHCO), which owns and operates Saudi German Hospitals (SGH), has started laying foundation work for the development of an EGP 8 billion medical city in Alexandria, Egypt, Alriyadh newspaper reported, citing SGH’s founder and chief executive Sobhi Batterjee.
The Batterjee Medical City will be financed from the company’s internal resources.
Batterjee added that SGH will pursue its expansions in other locations going forward, noting that a new hospital will be established in Egypt for the poor with a capacity ranging between 50 and 60 beds.
Last month, MEAHCO approved a ten-year management supervision agreement for the new medical city in the Alex West district of Alexandria, Argaam earlier reported.
Batterjee medical complex in Alexandria consists of seven hospitals that will cost a total of EGY 5 to 6 billion and staff housing which will cost EGP 20 million for each hospital.
In the third phase, as many as 220 clinics will be built with a total cost of EGP 200 million. In the fourth phase, a medical and science college will be built at a total cost of EGP 700 million.
The new city is expected to start operations by the end of 2019.
