Sipchem launches trial operations of PBT plant

Saudi International Petrochemical Co. (Sipchem) said on Tuesday that it has launched trial operations for its polybutylene terephthalate plant (PBT) by its affiliate Sipchem Chemical Company.
 
The SAR 600 million PBT plant, which is the first of its kind in the Middle East, has a production capacity of 63,000 ton per year. It uses butanediol as feedstock, which is supplied by Sipchem’s subsidiary, International Diol Company.
 
The company said it will announce commercial start up on the due date.
 
Sipchem owns 95 percent of Sipchem Chemical Company's capital, while Sipchem Marketing Company holds 5 percent.
 
PBT is a thermal engineering, highly specialized polymer used in automotive industries and the production of electrical materials.
