Acrylic Acid & Esters Plant (SAMCO)

The project aims at establishing the acrylic acid & esters plant of the Integrated Acrylates Complex, through the Saudi Acrylic Monomor Company (SAMCO).

The project is designed to produce acrylic acid, the basic material to produce butyl acrylate, ethyl-hexyl acyrlate 2 and glacial acrylic acid. SAMCO is to produce and sell up to 64k tpa of Glacial Acrylic Acid (GAA) to the Saudi Acrylic Polymer Company (SAPCO), and up to 160k tpa of Butyl Acrylate (BA) to Butanol project.

The project will be supplied with up to 96k tpa of n-butanol from the Saudi Acrylic Acid Company (SAAC), up to 100k tpa of propylene from Saudi Ethylene & Polyethylene Company (SEPC), and up to 14k tpa of propylene from S-Chem (Chevron).

Acrylates are intermediate products, which have a wide variety of applications in downstream and specialty petrochemical products, including the production of super absorbent polymers, paints, coatings, textiles, plastic additives, adhesives etc.
