US stocks close higher as Dow adds 135 points
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.30%, or 135 points, to 45,418. The broader S&P 500 rose 0.41%, or 26 points, to 6,465, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.44%, or 94 points, to 21,544.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 fell 0.83% to 554.2 points, with auto stocks down 0.77%.
Germany’s DAX slipped 0.5% to 24,152 points, the UK’s FTSE declined 0.6% to 9,265 points, and France’s CAC dropped 1.7% to 7,709 points.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 retreated 0.95% to 42,394 points, while the broader Topix index fell 1.1% to 3,071 points.
In commodities, Brent crude futures for October delivery fell 2.3%, or $1.58, to $67.22 a barrel. WTI (Nymex) crude futures for October delivery also slipped 2.39%, or $1.55, to $63.25.
Gold futures for December delivery rose 0.45%, or $15.5, to $3,433.
Trump dismissed Fed Governor Lisa Cook, saying he would soon secure a majority on the central bank’s board to accelerate interest rate cuts. Cook opposed the move and announced plans to challenge it in court.
