Saudi Minister of Energy, Abdulaziz bin Salman

Saudi Arabia has a huge project to retrofit buildings and raise energy efficiency in all government assets, Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said.

The ministry owns the National Energy Services Co. (Tarshid) that now manages and works on more than 250,000 government buildings, the minister explained.

He added that smart meters will have many applications and are linked to the communication system to add any additional new applications. The consumer will be able to manage his electrical system from home to ensure and control efficiency.

Prince Abdulaziz also stressed that Saudi Arabia plans to further reduce energy efficiency to more than 90 million tons per year and focus on industrial, transportation and buildings sectors since these are responsible for 90% of energy consumption within the Kingdom.
