NEOM Co. started with its partners in ACWA Power to build green hydrogen facilities, as well as two research and innovation centers, Saudi Press Agency reported, citing Nadhmi Al-Nasr, CEO of NEOM.

On the sidelines of Future Minerals Forum held in Riyadh, Al-Nasr said the first phase of the green hydrogen facilities will be launched in 2025, adding that the company has great ambitions of having innovative technical capabilities, which will make it completely dependent on clean energy.

NEOM is the first city in the world to rely entirely on renewable energy despite the challenges it faces without having previous experiences.

The mining is not only a safe industry but can also be a leading industry for renewable projects, Al-Nasr said.

He added that NEOM has four leading sectors, namely research, technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and renewable energy, calling on partners around the world to work together in the mining industry.

NEOM focuses on digitalization, especially as it is a pioneering sector and has achieved tremendous achievements over the last period, transforming the mining and making it ready to be a clean industry.

The digitalization includes addressing the areas of technology and innovations as well as how to attract and create a chain of green supplies for mining, starting with the mine to the manufacturing and export, in order to achieve sustainability, along with the green hydrogen, Al-Nasr concluded.

In July 2020, NEOM, ACWA Power and US-based Air Products signed an agreement for a $5 billion world-scale green hydrogen-based ammonia production facility powered by renewable energy, Argaam earlier reported.
