Overview of Saudi Arabia's self-sufficiency ratio for agricultural products in 2021

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) recently issued a report on agricultural statistics for 2021, which includes self-sufficiency ratio (SSR) for key agricultural products. 

 

Dairy recorded the highest SSR of 121% among animal products in the Kingdom. It was followed by table eggs with 112% and fish with 40%. 

 

As for the plant products, dates came first with 118% SSR and 1.57 million tons local production in 2021. Meanwhile, tomatoes and onions recorded 77% and 52% SSR, respectively. 

 

The Kingdom's total agricultural imports amounted to 20.04 million tons in 2021, of which 42.5% were grains. 

 

Meanwhile, agricultural exports amounted to about 2.65 million tons, of which 23.5% were dairy products, eggs and natural honey.
