China says assessing possibility of trade talks with US

China said it is evaluating US overtures to initiate trade negotiations, potentially paving the way for the world’s two largest economies to start talks to resolve a trade war.

Senior US officials have reached out recently “through relevant parties multiple times,” hoping to start negotiations with China on tariffs, a Spokesperson for China’s Commerce Ministry said in a statement Friday.

Bloomberg reported that China is assessing the US messages of hoping to hold tariff talks.

Earlier this week, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said it is up to Beijing to take the first step to de-escalate the dispute.
