Tehran studies shutting the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's official news agency reported, citing Esmail Kowsari, a member of Iran's National Security Committee.
The Strait, located between Oman and Iran, is the world’s most critical oil shipping chokepoint, according to Reuters.
This comes after Israel launched a heavy attack on Iran on June 13, targeting the heart of Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure.
The attack reportedly involved warplanes and drones smuggled into Iranian territory to hit key facilities and eliminate senior generals and scientists. Israel said the strike was necessary to prevent its adversary from getting closer to acquiring a nuclear weapon.
In response, the Iranian army announced on June 14 that its drones successfully hit targets inside Israel.
A senior adviser to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) revealed that 150 targets were hit during the Iranian operation against Israel.
