Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Fu Cong, said the US attack on Iran's nuclear facilities has damaged Washington's credibility, calling for an immediate ceasefire to reduce tensions in the Middle East.
Cong called on the related parties to exercise “self-control” and avoid the use of force, warning against the risks of escalating conflicts, according to China Central Television.
He called on all parties, especially Israel, to immediately cease fire in order to prevent further deterioration and expansion of the conflict, Reuters reported.
The escalation had caused damage to Iran, Cong explained, warning that the credibility of the US "has also been harmed, both as a state and as a participant in any international negotiations."
This comes after the UN Security Council convened on June 22 to discuss the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, while Russia, China, and Pakistan proposed that the 15-member council adopt a resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East.
