Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday slammed strikes on Tehran as unprovoked aggression and said Moscow was trying to help the Iranian people as he hosted Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Moscow. However, Putin has not announced any specific support for Iran.
“This is an absolutely unprovoked aggression against Iran,” Putin told Araghchi, calling the strikes unjustified and adding that Russia was “making efforts to provide assistance to the Iranian people.” He did not specifically address the US attacks, but spoke more generally about the strikes against Iran.
Ahead of Putin's meeting with Araghchi, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, "We have witnessed a new escalation of tensions in the region, and we condemn this and express our deep regret."
