US President Donald Trump signaled plans to impose additional tariffs on countries purchasing energy from Russia, including China, after announcing Tuesday that he would raise levies on Indian exports within 24 hours.

Asked by reporters whether he would follow through on earlier threats to target more countries, Trump said, “We’ll be doing quite a bit of that. We’ll see what happens over the next fairly short period of time,” according to Bloomberg.

Trump said he had not decided on a specific tariff rate for Russia’s trading partners. “We have a meeting with Russia tomorrow. We’re going to see what happens. We’ll make that determination at that time,” he added.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to travel to Russia this week for talks with Russian officials, ahead of an August 8 deadline Trump set for Moscow to reach a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine.
