Sawani Co., owner of the Public Investment Fund (PIF)-backed camel milk brand Noug, launched a model farm and a facility it touts as the world’s leading camel milk plant, built in partnership with German modern milking system provider GEA Group.
Fawzan Almadi, Head of Agriculture and Camels at Sawani, said the site can house over 10,000 camels and produce up to 500,000 liters of milk per month.
Almadi said the facility was built to meet top global standards in food safety and technology.
Sawani has recently launched long-life camel milk in multiple sizes and flavors, targeting a broad consumer base, including infants, with products now available locally and exported abroad for their high nutritional value.
Saudi Arabia is home to over 2.2 million camels, making it one of the world’s largest camel-owning countries, according to the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.
The Kingdom is known for its large herd size, genetic diversity, and deep-rooted cultural heritage, with an expanding role in camel meat and dairy markets.
Sawani is improving milk-producing camel breeds to increase yield per animal, aiming to establish a fully integrated and sustainable production system using advanced operational and veterinary practices to boost output and quality.
Experts expect Sawani to expand camel milk supply in the local market, offering a healthy alternative that meets top food safety standards.
Sawani endeavors to fully meet domestic demand for camel milk and its derivatives in the coming years, making them widely accessible, while positioning itself as a regional and global leader in camel dairy by leveraging Saudi Arabia’s deep-rooted camel heritage and livestock wealth.
