King Salman issued a royal decree on amending Article 64 of the Traffic Law, originally enacted by royal decree No. (M/85) dated Nov. 7, 2007.

The amended royal decree authorizes the Ministry of Interior to deport any non-Saudi who has received a final conviction for committing traffic violations that endanger public safety.

The amendment states if a violation that endangers public safety is committed for the second time within one year of the first violation, the competent authority shall impose the maximum fine. If the violation is committed for the third time within the same year, the violator shall be referred to the competent court—according to legal procedures—to consider imposing a prison sentence of up to one year, unless the court decides to double the fine imposed for the second offense. The executive regulations shall define the violations that endanger public safety and the procedures for referring violators to court.

If a final court ruling convicts a non-Saudi of committing a violation that endangers public safety, the Ministry of Interior may deport the offender and ban them from re-entering the Kingdom.

This shall be carried out in line with regulations set by the Ministry of Interior in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, and the Public Prosecution.

The executive regulations will specify categories exempted from this provision.
