Saudi Power Procurement Co. (SPPC) opens prequalification for 7th round of solar and wind projects under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP).

Saudi Power Procurement Co. (SPPC), principal buyer, opened today, Sept 16., request for qualification (RFQ) for the 7th round of solar and wind projects, with a combined capacity of 5.3 gigawatts (GW), under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) overseen by the Ministry of Energy.

The solar PV projects include Tabarjal 2 (1.4 GW), Mawqaq (600 MW), Tathleeth (600 MW) and South AlUla (500 MW). Wind projects comprise Bilghah (1.3 GW) and Shagran (900 MW), SPPC said today on X.

The program targets wider use of renewables across the Kingdom, displacement of liquid fuels in power generation, and progress toward the optimal energy mix for electricity.

Argaam data shows that SPPC oversees feasibility studies, project tenders, and power purchase agreements (PPA) signings, having launched 43.2 GW of renewable capacity, secured agreements for 38.7 GW, and connected 10.2 GW to the grid.

Connected capacity is expected to rise to 12.7 GW by end-2025 and 20 GW by end-2026, the company added.
