US natural gas inventories rose during the week ending October 17, remaining above the five-year average, a sign of weak demand.
Data released Thursday by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed an increase of 87 billion cubic feet (bcf), compared to expectations for an increase of only 81 bcf.
US gas inventories are 0.9% higher than the same period last year and 4.5% above the five-year average of 3.644 trillion cubic feet.
