US President Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump said his administration may decide on a new Federal Reserve chair before the end of the year, signaling that a decision on one of the country’s most important economic posts is near.
“Maybe by the end of the year, we’ll make a decision on the Fed,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, without revealing who is being considered for the role.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the administration will conduct a “second round” of interviews, adding that the final shortlist will be presented to the president after the Thanksgiving holiday, Reuters reported.
Global markets are closely watching who will be chosen to lead the US central bank, given the impact the decision could have on future interest rate policy and the broader direction of US monetary strategy.
