Mohammad Abunayyan, Chairman of ACWA Power Co., said the company’s projects generate around 4 gigawatts of solar and wind energy, highlighting that the world today is in urgent need of energy security and supply reliability, which have become essential priorities.

Saudi Arabia has diverse energy resources, including solar, wind, and energy storage, giving it a unique advantage among GCC countries, he added.

Speaking during a panel session at the Fortune Global Forum 2025, Abunayyan stated that Saudi Arabia is currently building the world’s largest green hydrogen plant, noting that 100% of renewable energy used in the project is “green water”, and that 60% of water production costs come from renewable energy. “This has helped reduce water production and desalination costs by about 85% over the past ten years, making ACWA Power’s services highly competitive cost-wise,” he said.

The Chairman also pointed out that China plays a vital role in the global energy transition through supporting innovation, “Without China, there would be no energy transition, as its continues to innovate and provide solutions that support the global shift toward clean energy,” he stated.
