Business operating revenues rise 3.9% in 2024: GASTAT

The business sector’s total operating revenues rose to SAR 5.5 trillion in 2024, increasing 3.9% year-on-year (YoY), according to the Structural Business Statistics issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).

 

Total operating expenditures reached SAR 2.37 trillion during the year, recording a growth rate of 9.3%.

 

Employee compensation amounted to approximately SAR 588.8 billion, up 8.1% YoY, the data showed.

 

Operating revenues refer to cash revenues generated from an establishment’s core activity or other secondary activities, while operating expenditures represent the value of goods and services actually consumed during the fiscal year as a result of economic activity. Operating surplus is defined as total revenues minus total expenditures and compensation.

GASTAT stated that manufacturing activities contributed 31% of total operating revenues, equivalent to SAR 1.7 trillion, followed by mining and quarrying activities at 19%, and wholesale and retail trade activities at 17%.

According to the data, manufacturing activities accounted for 42% of total operating expenses, followed by wholesale and retail trade at 22%, and construction activities at 8%.

The largest share of employees was in construction (23%), followed by wholesale and retail trade (22%) and manufacturing (19%).
