Riyadh Cement Co. began today, Feb. 23, pilot operations at its waste heat recovery (WHR) project for electricity generation.
In a Tadawul filing, the company said full-scale operations are expected in the second half of this year, which will reduce energy costs and cut emissions.
The company added that project costs and any updates will be disclosed upon final completion, noting the project is self-financed.
According to Argaam data, Riyadh Cement signed a $34.8 million (SAR 130.5 million) contract in November 2023 with Sinoma Energy Conservation Ltd. to build the 12.64-megawatt WHR project, which was set to span 20 months. Back then, the Saudi cement producer had said the project will be financed through a local bank.
