Acwa’s board of directors approved, on Feb. 28, the appointment of Samir Serhan as CEO effective today, March 1, as part of the company’s structured succession plan.

The move comes ahead of the expiry of Marco Arcelli’s contract in April 2027, the company said in a statement to Tadawul.

Arcelli will remain with the company as advisor to the Chairman to ensure a smooth and orderly transition.

Serhan will be responsible for the company’s global strategy and operations across 15 markets. Previously, he was Acwa’s President for Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, responsible for seven key markets (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, and Iraq).

The CEO holds a Ph.D. in engineering mechanics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). He has presented and published more than 40 papers at conferences and in scientific journals worldwide.
