Home loans to individuals decline 41% to SAR 6.2B in January: SAMA

Residential mortgages granted to individuals by banks in Saudi Arabia retreated 41% year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 6.19 billion in January 2026, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
 
According to data issued by SAMA, 9,000 contracts were concluded between banks and individuals in January 2026.
 
The average value of new residential mortgages declined by 12% YoY in January 2026, reaching SAR 687,000.
 

Financing for residential villas accounted for the largest share of the total mortgages provided by banks during January 2026, with a value of SAR 4.07 billion, at 66%.

 

Residential apartments came in second place with SAR 1.69 billion, while land plots reached approximately SAR 411 million.
