Trump urges Fed to cut rates immediately

US President Donald Trump called on the Federal Reserve to hold a “special meeting” to cut interest rates immediately.

Trump’s remarks, made to reporters during an event at the White House, came a day ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee’s scheduled meeting, with its rate decision due on March 18.

However, the committee is unlikely to cut rates at this meeting. Its latest projections indicated a single 25-basis-point rate cut in 2026, while markets expect policymakers to remain cautious amid rising oil prices.

“Where is the Federal Reserve Chairman, Jerome “Too Late” Powell, today? He should be dropping Interest Rates, IMMEDIATELY, not waiting for the next meeting!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
