Global markets close for Good Friday; Europe extends holiday break

Stock markets in the US, Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia are closed on Friday for the Good Friday holiday, while trading continues in Japan and China.

 

With Easter Sunday falling on April 5, markets are naturally shut over the weekend. However, Easter Monday (April 6) is not a holiday in US equity markets, in contrast to Europe, where exchanges remain closed.

European and UK markets observe a longer break, closing for four consecutive days from Friday through Monday.

 

Hong Kong will see one of the longest shutdowns, remaining closed through April 7, including a compensatory holiday for the Ching Ming Festival.

 

In commodities, CME Group will fully close trading on Friday, with markets shutting at the usual time on Thursday. Settlement prices from April 2 will be carried forward as Friday’s official prices.
