Methanol Chemicals Co., Chemanol, said production at its methanol plant will be disrupted for two weeks starting April 14 to inspect the valve trays of distillation column to improve its efficiency, the company said in a statement to the Saudi stock exchange, Tadawul.
The dimethylformamide plant will be subsequently shut down because it uses as a feedstock carbon monoxide (CO) produced by the methanol plant.
The financial impact of the shutdown won’t be determined until the inspection and maintenance operations are completed. The volatility of the products prices also make it harder to calculate the exact cost of the disruption, it added.
The shutdown won’t affect the operations of its other plants, it said, adding that updates will be announced in the future.
