National Industrialization Co. (Tasnee) started a three to six-month trial operation of its butanol plant on Tuesday, the company said in a statement to the Saudi bourse.
Commercial operations are expected to start in the first half of 2016.
Financial impact of the project has not yet been gauged due to the volatility of energy prices, the company added.
The project is a joint venture between Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Co, Saudi Acrylic Acid Co (SAAC), and Sadara Chemical Co. It’s designed to have an annual capacity of 330,000 tons of n-butanol (NBA) and 11,000 tons of iso-butanol (IBA), according to Argaam.
Tasnee and Sahara Petrochemicals Co. own 52.3 percent and 43.16 percent of Saudi Acrylic Acid Company (SAAC), respectively.
