The Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA), the kingdom’s central bank, has denied rumors that it was planning to issue a new 1000-riyal bill, while adding that new banknotes and coins featuring the face of King Salman are still in the pipeline.
The bank said that designs circulating on social media these days are for the 1-riyal coin, which was introduced in 2010 and can be found in SAMA’s offices across the kingdom.
New banknotes and coin designs featuring King Salman’s face will be issued in line with global specifications, and will be announced publicly ahead of time, the bank added in a statement.
