Saudi Arabia launches tender process for Sakaka solar plant

Saudi Arabia energy minister, Khalid Al-Falih, issued the request for proposals (RFP) for the 300-megawatt (MW) Sakaka solar plant on Monday. 

 

The project in Al-Jouf, which is expected to come online by 2019, involves the development, design, financing, construction, testing, completion and operation of a greenfield solar photovoltaic plant.

 

Another tender will be launched for the kingdom’s 400-MW wind project in Domat Al-Jandar within a few weeks.

 

More solar projects with a combined capacity of 620 MW will follow across the kingdom, the minister said.

 

Al-Falih outlined that renewable energy programs are based on transparency, localization and development of renewable energy with the related industries and the transfer of advanced technologies.
