A Saudi court on Wednesday upheld a previous ruling issued on October 2 for acquitting Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) along with other 12 persons accused in Makkah crane crash, Okaz newspaper reported, citing unnamed sources with knowledge of the matter.
The court cited that the crane collapsed on Friday though it was placed in a safe position, clearing all individuals who were charged with negligence leading to death of responsibility for the crane crash.
The crane toppled due to a severe thunderstorm and violent winds, the court added.
The accident, which took place in September 2015, killed 110 people, while another 209 were injured when a crane involved in the Grand Mosque expansion project crashed, Argaam earlier reported.
In October 2017, a local court acquitted the construction firm staff of responsibility for the deadly crane collapse.
The verdict, however, was appealed by the Attorney General.
