US President Donald Trump on Monday offered a conditional exemption on steel and aluminium import tariffs to Canada and Mexico if they renegotiated the NAFTA agreement.
In a series of tweets, Trump said the US has large trade deficits with Mexico and Canada, adding that the North American Free Trade Agreement has been a “bad deal for the USA.”

On Thursday, Trump said the US would apply duties of 25 percent on imported steel and 10 percent on aluminium to protect domestic producers.
In response, the UAE's Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) said this week that it was "well prepared" for any market conditions should Trump go ahead with sweeping tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.
“Alongside Europe, Asia and the United Arab Emirates, the US is an important market for EGA,” the spokesperson said, adding, “We are well prepared for whatever market conditions may arise.”
