Saudi Arabia's megacity project NEOM is developing a $5 billion worth of project to recycle rainwater, Gavin van Tonder, Water Sector head at NEOM, told Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper.
“Under the new project, seven mega tanks will be built in several sites to capture, recycle and reuse runoff and rainwater,” Tonder said.
The first phase of the program is expected to be finalized by 2022. The harvested rainwater will be used as drinking water and for other purposes, he added.
NEOM has recently announced a plan to recycle 99 percent of water in the megacity to ensure environment protection, Argaam reported.
