The Jeddah Metro project will be delayed until the bus network is completed in 5-7 years, Al-Watan newspaper has reported, citing Osama Ibrahim Abdu, CEO of Jeddah Metro Co.
“The Jeddah Metro project is already planned, and will cost SAR 60 billion,” Abdu added. However, Jeddah has a challenging geographical nature; engineering details and groundwater problems should be settled first, he noted.
In March 2013, the Saudi cabinet approved Jeddah public transport network project at a total cost of SAR 45 billion. However, mayor of Jeddah, Saleh Al-Turki recently said that the project can’t be carried out due to huge amounts of groundwater.
