A look at Saudi Kayan’s output, sales revenue in 2019

Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Co. posted record production at 8 out of 13 plants, the company’s CEO said.

 

Plant reliability improved by 14% year-on-year (YoY) with average product quality and energy efficiency rising by 2% and 8% YoY, respectively.

 

Saudi Kayan’s production slightly increased to 5.32 million tons, from 5.31 million tons in 2018 despite the estimated decline of 93,000 tons in the wake of the drone attacks launched on Saudi Aramco’s plants and lower feedstock supplies, data compiled by Argaam showed.

 

Meanwhile, sales volumes grew by 6% YoY to 3.05 million tons.

 

The petrochemical producer uses ethylene and propylene as feedstock for polyethylene, polypropylene and MEG.

 

Saudi Kayan commenced commercial production at its petrochemical complex

in October 2011.

 

The company’s products include ethylene, propylene, monoethylene glycol, ethylene oxide, benzene, phenol, cumene, acetone and bisphenol.

 

It also produces polypropylene, high and low-density polyethylene, polycarbonates.

 

Other specialty products include ethoxylates, diethanolamine, triethanolamine, monoethanolamine and natural detergent alcohol.

Polymers accounted for 51%, or SAR 6.3 billion of total sales revenue in 2019. Chemicals came second, representing 39%, or SAR 4.8 billion of total sales revenue.

For sales geographical distribution, Asia accounted for 50% of total sales last year. The Middle East and Africa came second with 32%.

 

The company incurred a net loss of SAR 636.8 million in 2019, against a net profit of SAR 1.70 billion a year earlier.
