National Water moving ahead with SAR 3.5 bln projects in Eastern region, says CEO

National Water Co.’s (NWC) chief executive, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Mowkley, said that the company is presently managing 139 projects, worth about SAR 3.5 billion, in the Eastern region.

 

The firm has 93 projects in the water and environmental services, worth SAR 2.7 billion, which encompass developing water purification plants; establishing networks for water and wastewater services; building reservoirs and pumping stations, lifting stations and expulsion lines; and home delivery projects to connect clients with water and environmental services, it said in a statement.

 

The operational ones include 46 water and environmental services projects, worth SAR 835 million, including sewage treatment plants, water pumping stations, reservoirs, as well as water and wastewater services networks in the Eastern region.

 

Al-Mowkley clarified that the projects currently being implemented in the region are intended to strengthen the water resources system and services infrastructure, in addition to increasing the coverage rate in line with the National Water Strategy.

 

He added that the company is working with the Saudi Irrigation Organization, Saudi Aramco, and a number of other parties to benefit from the production of three-stage water treatment plants in the region, as pumping rates increased 35% this year.

 

The CEO also indicated that the amount of water pumped from Al Khobar stood at about 135,000 cubic meters per day, in addition to Al-Ahsa pumping stations, which benefit from the three-stage water treatment process in accordance with the international rates applicable for the irrigation of crops and conservation of groundwater resources.
