Makkah court acquits Saudi Binladin in Grand Mosque crane collapse: report

Makkah Criminal Court acquitted 13 defendants in the crane collapse case of 2015, including Saudi Binladin Group, Okaz newspaper reported, citing sources.

 

During the verdict hearing, the court said no new evidence appeared in the investigations into the deadly collapse. It is believed that the crane collapsed inside the premises of the Grand Mosque in Makkah as a result of heavy rains and thunderstorms, rather than human error or fault.

 

The same court issued a similar verdict in October 2017, acquitting all 13 defendants who were charged with negligence.

 

The accident, which took place in September 2015, killed 110 people, while another 209 were injured, when a crane involved in the Grand Mosque expansion project crashed, Argaam earlier reported.
