POS transactions rise 2% to SAR 7.6 bln in week ending Dec. 26: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions grew by 2% to SAR 7.6 billion in the week ending Dec. 26, 2020, from SAR 7.5 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

A total of 72.2 million transactions were processed in the week ending Dec. 26.

Most of the sectors witnessed an increase in POS sales during the week, led by Clothes and Footwear with 8%.

 

The Telecommunications and Public Utilities sectors led the decliners, falling nearly 4% each, with sales of SAR 65 million and SAR 61 million, respectively.

 

Consumer spending focused on Food & Beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.1 billion, followed by Restaurants and Cafes sector with SAR 994 million and Clothes and Footwear sector with SAR 678 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.51 billion, representing 33% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.25 billion.
