POS transactions hit SAR 10.34 bln in week ending Oct. 30: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions rose 29% to SAR 10.34 billion in the week ending Oct. 30, from SAR 8.02 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.  

   

Data showed that 118.5 million transactions were processed in the week ending Oct. 30.  

  

POS transactions represent what is spent by consumers using ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed an increase in POS transactions during the week ending Oct. 30, led by the education sector, which rose 83%. It was followed by electronics & electric appliances and food & beverages sectors with 55% and 43% increase, respectively.

 

Consumer spending focused on the food & beverages sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.7 billion, representing 16% of POS transactions, followed by the restaurants & cafes sector with SAR 1.4 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 3.17 billion, representing 31% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.54 billion.
