Saudi Arabia's private sector workers hit 8.52 mln in 2021

The number of workers in the Saudi private sector reached around 8.52 million by end of 2021, statistics by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD) showed. 

 

Expats accounted for 6.59 million, or 77% of the private sector total workforce, while the number of Saudis reached 1.92 million workers, or 23% of the total workforce. 

 

The following table illustrates the private sector workforce by nationality in Saudi Arabia in 2021:

The number of males working in private sector entities stood at 7.58 million, or 89% of the total number of workers, while females amounted to 937,100.

Saudi Arabia comprised nearly 2.05 million private sector institutions in 2021, of which 686,800 and 383,900 are located in Riyadh and Makkah, respectively.
