SCA says Saudi contracting entities drop to 167,100 in 2021

The number of entities in the Saudi contracting sector fell by 5% to 167,100 in 2021 compared to 175,500 in 2020, the Saudi Contractors Authority (SCA) said in its 2021 annual statistical report.

 

Micro-enterprises constituted 78% of the sector’s entities, with a total of 121,600, while small enterprises constituted 23%, with a total of 39,200, according to SCA’s report.

 

Saudis owned 99.4% of the total entities, with a total of 166,100, while non-Saudis owned 988 entities. Mixed ownership entities amounted to 18.

The number of workers in the contracting sector facilities declined by 3% to 2.74 million in 2021 compared to 2.8 million in 2020.

 

Saudi workers constituted 19% of workers, with a total of 509,800, while non-Saudi workers constituted 81% with a total of 2.23 million.

 

Large enterprises had 1.32 million workers (48% of the total), followed by small enterprises with about 576,100 workers (21% of the total).

 

Riyadh accounted for the largest number of workers in the sector's facilities by about 37%, followed by the Eastern Province with 28%.

With regard to the types of sectors, building construction activity topped the list, with the number of entities reaching 92,200 (55.2% of the total). It was followed by specialized construction activities, with 49,400 entities (29.6% of the total), then the activities of providing services for buildings with 23,500 entities (14% of the total).

Riyadh accounted for 27.1% of the total contracting sector entities in Saudi Arabia, followed by Makkah and the Eastern Province with 22.4% and 14.2%, respectively.

 

All Saudi regions witnessed a decrease in the entities growth rate during 2021, except for Jazan, which saw an increase of 5%.
