Jeddah Islamic port
Saudi Arabia’s merchandize imports rose by 12% year-on-year (YoY) in the first quarter of 2022 to SAR 156.8 billion, the highest since years, according to data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).
Imports grew by SAR 8.17 billion, or 5%, in Q1 2022, compared to Q4 2021.

The increase in the Kingdom’s Q1 2022 imports was driven by a 32% (SAR 4.46 billion) hike in its imports of products of the chemical or allied industries, and a 14% (SAR 3.97 billion) rise in machinery and mechanical appliances. Imports of mineral products also went up by SAR 3.43 billion.

China topped the Kingdom's list of countries with imports of SAR 34.7 billion, accounting for 22% of total imports in Q1 2022.
The US and the UAE came in the second and third positions with 9% and 6% of the total imports, respectively.
