Saudi Arabian banknotes
The total value of assets held by investment funds in Saudi Arabia fell by 5% to SAR 215.7 billion in Q1 2022, compared to SAR 227.2 billion a year earlier, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
The decline was attributed to a 28% decrease year-on-year (YoY) in foreign assets – which represent 27% of total assets – to SAR 57.6 billion. On the other hand, local fund assets – equivalent to 73% of total assets – edged up 7% to SAR 158.1 billion.
Investment funds are either open- or closed-end, with total assets of open-end funds at approximately SAR 184.9 billion, accounting for 86% of the total assets of the funds. The assets of closed-end investment funds amounted to SAR 30.8 billion.
