GCC Interconnection Authority CEO Ahmed Al-Ebrahim
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries realized savings of more than $3 billion since the GCC Interconnection Authority’s (GCCIA) network project became fully operational, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported citing the authority’s CEO Ahmed Al-Ebrahim.
Al-Ebrahim explained that the savings included the cost of building new generating stations, leading to a reduction of operating and maintenance expenses, as well as lower carbon emissions.
On the sidelines of the authority's participation in the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023, he revealed that the interconnection project has succeeded in avoiding 100% partial or total interruption in the GCC electricity grids.
