CHI says 11.5 mln benefited from private health insurance in Q2 2023

The Council of Health Insurance’s (CHI) headquarters

The Council of Health Insurance (CHI) said that the number of private health insurance beneficiaries reached 11.46 million in the second quarter of 2023.

In its bulletin for Q2 2023, the council stated that a total of 7.91 million employees benefited from private health insurance, compared to 3.56 million dependents.

A number of practices violating CHI laws, regulations, and decisions were reported in the second quarter, amounting to more than 3,268 insurance transactions. Thus, a number of insurance firms were referred to the CHI’s Cooperative Health Insurance Law Provisions Violations Consideration Committee, in order to impose the appropriate penalities against them.

Penalties worth nearly SAR 400,000 were imposed against these companies in Q2 2023, with 13 applications filed on resolving insurance disputes between the two parties through the CHI’s Reconciliation and Settlement Center, the council indicated.

During the same quarter, CHI approved 155 new healthcare service providers, in addition to the requalification of 906 others, as shown in the following table:
