SMEs operating revenues rise 6% to SAR 1.33T in 2022, OpEx at SAR 687.9B

Aggregate operating revenues of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) rose in 2022 by 6% year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 1.33 trillion, according to the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT). 

 

Operating expenses (OpEx) also increased by 4% to SAR 687.9 billion during the same year. Meanwhile, workers’ compensation grew by 5% to SAR 164.2 billion, the authority's statistics showed.

Medium enterprises came first in terms of operating revenues, with SAR 597.9 billion in 2022, followed by microenterprises, with SAR 382.7 billion.

 

Medium enterprises also recorded the highest OpEx of SAR 287.9 billion, followed by microenterprises with SAR 213.4 billion.

The wholesale and retail trade sector came in first with operating revenues of SAR 515.7 billion, followed by the manufacturing sector with SAR 267.7 billion, and then the construction sector with SAR 180.3 billion.

The wholesale and retail sector reported the highest OpEx at SAR 313.9 billion, followed by the manufacturing sector at SAR 141.1 billion, as shown in the table below:
