Saudi Electricity regulator to spend SAR 7 billion on smart meters, al-Hayat reports

16/03/2014 Argaam

Saudi Arabia’s Electricity and Co-generation Regulatory Authority plans to spend SAR 7 billion on a project to install smart meters in the next 8 years, as the oil-rich kingdom accelerates efforts to reduce and rationalize energy consumption, al-Hayat, a pan Arab newspaper reported, citing the regulatory’s governor.

The long-term impact on the economy and the company’s profit exceeds the cost, especially after the company starts the load management program, said the company’s governor, Abdullah al-Shehri.
