Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco) has extended to July 27the deadline for construction tenders at the $6.5 billion gas processing plant adjacent to the Fadhili oil field in the Eastern Province, the Middle East Economic Digest (MEED) reported.

Many of the engineering, procurement and construction contractors bidding for the project will split into consortiums, according to MEED.

The budget was initially estimated to be $5 billion. Other work is expected to be tendered in the future, including a large pipeline package.

The plant will process sour gas from the Khursaniyah oil field and the Hasbah non-associated gas field. Aramco is developing several offshore non-associated gas fields in the Gulf, including the Karan, Hasbah, and Arabiyah fields.
