Saudi ministry tightens rules for fuel stations, service centers

Saudi Arabia’s ministry of municipal and rural affairs has introduced stricter measures for fuel stations and service centers in the kingdom aimed at improving services.

 

Abdullatif Bin Abdul Malek Al Shaikh, minister of municipal and rural affairs, has issued directives to upgrade all relevant facilities. A monthly report should also be submitted following any improvements, the ministry said in a statement.

 

The new rules are set to impact a total of 70 stations, while station owners have been urged to work with qualified companies to manage, operate, and maintain their facilities.

 

Saudi Automotive Services Co. (SASCO), Petromin Corp., Emirates National Oil Co. (ENOC), Sahel and Naft have been certified by the ministry to operate and maintain the fuel stations and service centers in the kingdom.

 

In 2013, the Saudi cabinet urged the ministry to map out a two-year comprehensive plan to enhance standards at fuel stations and service centers in the country, as a means to boost domestic tourism, according to a report published by Argaam.
