Qatar Airways scraps plans to launch Al Maha in near-term

12/04/2017 Argaam

Qatar Airways has scrapped plans to launch services of Saudi Arabia-based Al Maha Airways at present or in the near-term, Qatari Al-Raya newspaper reported Tuesday, citing chief executive Akbar Al-Baker.

Al-Baker had previously blamed Saudi Arabia’s red tape for delays in licensing the airline.

The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) had earlier attributed Qatar Airway’s withdrawal from offering services in the kingdom to the carrier’s request to operate under its Qatari license.

Qatar Airways and Gulf Air bagged Saudi aviation licenses back in 2012, becoming the first non-Saudi carriers to win such licenses in the kingdom.
